Monolith Storage
In the world of digital storage, we can find different types of devices in charge of protecting the data stored in them. One of these storage devices are the monolith type
Monolith storage devices are those solid state memories, in which its architecture is structured in a single form. In this type of memory all its components are integrated in the same place, having in the same space the memory (this is usually NAND), the controller, the connection interface, among other components.

In this article, we will focus on two monoliths in particular, SD and microSD memory. This type of memory is widely used by many users, since a great variety of personal devices use this type of memory for information storage.
Image 1.0 shows some of the elements that make up a microSD, such as the connection interface, the controller and the NAND memory, being these the most relevant elements of this unit.
The SD memory has several characteristics, which we will show below:
The size that presents a SD memory is 32 mm high by 24 mm wide and the microSD has a size of 15 mm high by 11 mm wide, in Image 2.0 we can visualize the size that represents house SD memory.

In SD memories there are different characteristics that tell us what type of SD it is and what it was designed for, some of the characteristics that are displayed on the case of the unit are:
Types of SD cards:
There are 4 types of SD memories, these are cataloged depending on the memory capacity they can store.
SD Memory (Standard Capacity): This type of memory can hold up to 2GB of storage, with a default file format of FAT 12 or FAT 16.
SDHC (High Capacity) Memory: can hold from 2GB to 32GB of storage, with a default file format of FAT 32.
SDXC (Extended Capacity) Memory: This memory has a range of 32GB up to 2TB of storage, and has a default file format of exFat type.
SDUC (Ultra Capacity) Memory: This memory supports a range of 2TB to 128TB of memory storage, with a default file format of exFAT.
SD memory speed
With the evolution of technology, especially devices that use SD memories for information storage, it is necessary that SD memories can have a higher response speed when writing and reading information through the communication interface or data bus.

The maximum speed supported by the SD memory bus will be defined by the interface version, which also influences the write speed to the NAND memory and the write format supported.

The speed category is associated with the certifications that the device receives based on its minimum transmission speed, there are three categories in which the transmission speed is evaluated:
Speed class: this type of category is a basic version, which indicates a standard in the speed in image and video.
UHS speed class: It is implemented in memory models with ultra high speed, it can support resolutions from 720p to 1080p, and 4K can be obtained with low performance.
Video Speed Class: It is oriented to 4K and 8K formats, providing better quality, in addition to higher speed.
Certified for application performance.
SD memories have had a constant evolution in the type of information that is stored in its memory, before it was usual only to save images, videos, documents, now you can install applications and directly store the information of the application in the SD memory.
For this, there are two certifications that guarantee that the memory reaches higher levels of reading and writing to support this type of requests to the memory.

This certification is divided into two sectors, A1 and A2.
A1: It is oriented to editing and updating applications, in addition to providing storage on the drive. It offers a minimum read of 1500 IOPS and 500 IOPS write.
A2: Compared to the previous one, the A2 offers higher performance and is capable of managing processes in specific, providing a task queue, cache and better memory performance. It offers a minimum read of 4000 IOPS and a minimum write of 2000 IOPS.
IOPS: stands for Input/Output Operations Per Second. This term refers to the maximum number of requests the drive can make in reading and writing information per second.

In Figure 6.0 we can see some of the certifications that can be printed on the memory casing to know the characteristics of the device, not all memories must have all the certificates.

Yes, hard drives have a magnetic mechanism and being near a high-powered external magnet, this could de-configure their mechanism. There are even tools for destroying hard disks where the disk is completely erased with a giant magnet. This process is known as degausser.
